ExPr Online is a local employer-discovery platform developed by Expertise Project. The goal of the platform is to help make our region's "guides" more aware of local employers and career paths - so they can better server the students in their care. It also helps older students and adults with discovering local employers as they explore the workforce.

ExPr Online is filled with videos taken alongside local technical employers and curated in a way that meets the needs of middle, high, and college students. Videos may include "glimpses" into the working of a local professional, longer-form "walkthroughs" that allow a deeper dive into local employers, or "immersive" videos that enable you to experience the inside of a active facility or jobsite using 360 degree video.

A "guide" is our term for any person who consistently impacts a student. It may be a technical educator, a guidance counselor, coach, or other community leader -- and it is often the student's own family. Only the people who are in the student's lives "day in and day out" can have the most  positive influence and impact over them - and we want to give them the tools to do so.

We support and work with teachers to enrich their classrooms.

Technical educators are the shop teachers, work-based learning coordinators, and instructors in our region's colleges, trade schools, BOCES Career and Technical Education, and high schools - and they have a lot on their plate.

They must make students aware of the opportunities in technical career paths, attract candidates to enroll into their programs, keep their interest and make their studies be relevant to the working world, and then help place the student with an employer that fits their interests.

We understand how difficult that can be -- because we are technical educators ourselves -- and our collective works together to make it easier for all.

ExPr Online is funded through a mixture of subscriptions and memberships. We charge educational institutions a yearly subscription fee upon their size, and allow their entire community unlimited access to the content on it. Corporate members pay a fee to post their content on the platform and enable our teams to curate it in a way that is useful for educators and viewers.

Traditional social media is built upon a pure advertisement-based business model that emphasizes user engagement above all else.  This emphasis prioritizes "flash-in-the-pan" style content that may report "impressions" but likely has little long-term impact.

Our pricing model allows us to avoid these business models to emphasize a long-term approach that enables our local communities to connect digitally with our local students using a "quiet room" strategy that doesn't mine student data and that is consistent with our public-benefit mission.

Success is seeing a student become more aware of the world of employers that surround them. For example, if your teenage student can name local employers, know what they do, and be able to retell stories about them...- and if your soon-to-be-graduates and adult cohorts have identified the career, companies, and teams they would like to join well before graduation-day - then that's success.
